<image:caption>Move provides a training pathway for people with intellectual disabilities to become dance teachers. Trainees build a portfolio of activities, develop bespoke lesson plans for diverse groups, and gain practical experience teaching in weekly community classes. Move trainees demonstrate not only their capacity for leadership, but also their unique ability to connect with diverse communities and engage them in dance. Their creativity and leadership have enriched people from both mainstream and disability communities, challenging the deficit paradigm of disability by offering a model for inclusive practice.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Adults 1 Cotutor | Jolt Community Class Cotutor I joined Jolt in 2001 and was a member of the first Jolt class. I have performed in shows with Jolt starting with the first one called Jolt (2002), Tread Softly (2003), Crossing Point (2004), Still (2010), and Let Inside Me Laugh (2007) which explored my own experience of autism. I was involved in the Halberg Awards with Christ College and Rangi Ruru Girls’ School and did a poster campaign for Arts Access Aotearoa to promote people with significant needs. I attended a summer workshop with Touch Compass where I learnt some new dance activities and how to choreograph works. I have also worked behind the scenes as stage manager for some shows. I have danced with some talented dancers and worked with choreographers like Fleur De Their, Erica Viedma, Aleasha Seaward amongst others. I was on the Jolt Board for a few years as well. I am involved with Jolt tutor training which has supported me in my new journey running my own dance class, Bump. I have also volunteered in the children’s class for about 3 years and tutored for Arts Integrated.</image:caption>

Since then, I have mostly been tutoring and assisting in the Junior and Young Adults classes and in 2022 became a facilitator for the Move programme. Jolt helped to develop my passion for the disability community which then led to my full-time job as a special education teacher at Ferndale School. I love that Jolt presents our community with seemingly endless possibilities, high expectations and beautiful ways to express our wairua and tell our stories.</image:caption>

If incidents of intimidation or bullying arise, we reserve the right to ask the person involved to leave the premises immediately and if deemed necessary, remove them permanently. It is important that you provide any information that Jolt tutors might need to know about medical conditions (including seizure plans) or behavioral triggers, when registering on-line. If a dancer requires assistance with toileting, you will need to provide appropriate support. Please advise your class tutor if you have any special arrangements in place for the collection of dancers. <image:title>Workshops & Residencies - Tukutuku</image:title>
<image:caption>Tukutuku creates authentic connections between mainstream music and dance students and students from their schools’ learning support units, weaving together the talents of each group. Over the course of three days, Jolt’s inclusive tutors and a team of professional musicians work alongside students with and without disabilities to create a programme of original choreography and live music, each work inspired by and showcasing the wairua and skills of the student with disabilities. Tukutuku has been presented in partnership with the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra at Haeata Community Campus with Haeata Ferndale Satellite, Shirley Boys’/ Avonside Girls’ High School with Waikahu Ferndale Satellite Unit, and Mt Aspiring College, and in partnership with the Gisborne International Music Competition and Te Tairāwhiti Arts Festival at Gisborne Girls’ High School. I’ve learned that everyone is equal and there shouldn’t be separations between us students. Being here with the Ferndale kids taught me that they are talented and capable of many things than what they look like. I learned how to jazz along with others. Haeata music student Tukutuku won a Highly Commended citation at the 2019 Te Putanga Toi Arts Access Awards.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Workshops & Residencies - Move Dance Classes</image:title>
<image:caption>Jolt’s senior Move trainees are highly experienced in leading dance classes in mainstream primary and secondary schools and at the University of Canterbury. The connections they make with these groups are both extraordinary and unique. They encourage rangatahi to think differently about disability and to develop more nuanced views about difference. Classes run for 1-2 hours, and can include time to discuss wider issues around access and inclusive practice. If you would like to host a Move dance class at your school, please contact Lyn Cotton.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Youth 4 Disability Leader | Jolt Community Class Cotutor Samuel has been with Jolt since 2009, moving through different classes and locations around Christchurch, expressing his creativity through dance, and performing on stage. Samuel is in his second year of Move tutor training, and is enjoying learning the art of teaching, and learning to help others express themselves. Due to the positive reinforcement of self-awareness from Jolt’s tutors, Samuel has also branched out into theatre work, and is playing drums in a Rock and Roll covers band. Jolt’s values of creating connection, expression and belonging through the freedom of inclusive dance have also enabled Samuel to be his best self, recently being voted onto the Papanui Student Leadership team. Samuel is looking forward to seeing you in class, at performances or just saying hello when you next bump into him.</image:caption>

Colin graduated from the University of Otago with degrees in fine arts and graphic design, where he also did a minor in dance studies. Here he developed a passion for physical expression and went on to study circus arts at the Christchurch polytechnic. In 2010 he founded the “Flying Kiwi Circus”, a charity which provided fun, confidence boosting programs teaching circus skills at Christchurch schools and community groups. Unfortunately the circus was forced to close its doors shortly after the earthquake. Colin then joined the Clown Doctors of New Zealand, bringing much needed distraction and entertainment to hospitals and rest homes. Colin is currently working in early childhood education as a teacher aide, assisting with children who have specific needs whilst he completes his Diploma of Teaching.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Access and Community Engagement Coordinator Kate thinks that everyone has an artist within (no matter how deep they are hidden). Her mission is to encourage and support creativity, exploration and fun! She is a natural organiser and will always think outside the box to make things happen. Kate has had a diverse international career as a rock climbing and canyoning guide, rope access driller and aerial performer, festival director and communications coordinator. It was in Natimuk (a small town in regional Victoria, close to rock climbing mecca Mt Arapiles) that Kate realised the potential of arts and creative projects to change the way people viewed and interacted with the world around them. As the Festival Director of the Nati Frinj, working with a small team of volunteers, she developed the festival into a three-day extravaganza of music, installations, visual arts and performance events. The venues ranged from the 180-seat Soldiers Memorial Hall to abandoned shearing sheds. Events included large scale aerial performances on giant silos through to site-specific installations in outdoor toilets! More recently Kate has been the Urban Play Coordinator with Gap Filler, working with partner organisations to make Ōtautahi a playful and vibrant city for everyone.
